The brief
FarmHand, built by Team HackForge for the DevFest Abeokuta 2026 Buildathon (theme: Build. Secure. Scale.), took 3rd place from the summit's field of teams. Farmers record a concern once — text, manual counts, photos, or voice notes in English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, or Nigerian Pidgin — and Gemini with a Groq fallback structures it into fields and a source-labelled urgency assessment against a deterministic rule baseline, with the farmer reviewing and correcting before anything is confirmed. High and critical confirmations open a case file that carries into an open or targeted vet request, atomic vet acceptance, a server-generated consultation fee quote, Flutterwave payment with server-side verification and signature-checked webhooks, and a vet-authored treatment plan with dated steps and follow-ups. The platform is .NET 10 Clean Architecture with CQRS via MediatR, a Next.js 16 same-origin BFF that keeps tokens in HttpOnly cookies, PostgreSQL 18, AES-256-GCM field encryption, and an installable offline-capable PWA — backed by 99 passing tests, production configuration guards, k6 load benchmarks, and a Docker Compose reference deployment behind Caddy TLS.

- 01Responsible AI Reporting
- Reports accept free text, explicit manual field counts, photos, and voice notes across five Nigerian languages. Every AI contribution is source-labelled against a deterministic rule baseline, farmer wording is preserved, and a farmer override can only raise urgency, never lower it.

- Open or targeted vet requests with atomic acceptance, a database-enforced single active request per incident, farmer contacts hidden on open requests, and assigned-vet case access.

- Server-generated fee quotes, idempotent Flutterwave payment initiation, server-side verification of status, amount, and currency, and a signature-verified webhook with independent transaction re-verification.

- Vet-authored treatment plans with dated schedule items and step-completion tracking; completing a paid consultation requires a verified payment.

- Same-origin BFF with HttpOnly cookies and CSRF checks, JWT refresh-token rotation with reuse detection, AES-256-GCM encryption of payout account numbers, magic-byte upload validation, and configuration guards that refuse to boot with demo modes enabled.

- Installable service worker with owner-filtered on-device report drafts in IndexedDB, a public offline fallback page, and truthful storage and logout failure reporting.

- 99 passing tests including 57 integration tests against real PostgreSQL and 18 Playwright e2e flows, k6 benchmarks with zero unexpected errors at up to 50 virtual users, a scripted database restore drill, and a documented migration and rollback runbook.
